Your task:
This is a very important task. This is for your protection and others. Digital citizenship is not something that was explicitly taught a few years ago. With the increase in social media and impersonal communications there is also an increase in cyber bullying and privacy-theft. How are you going to protect yourself and how will you treat others online?

Practice:
Discuss with another person about why cyberbullying is an issue. What does that do to the bully and what does that do to the bullied? Why is there an increase?
Go to this Google News link and read an article (or 2 or 3 or 4...) about cyber bullying. Tell someone what you read. How do you feel about that?

Internet safety is discussed more in depth on the next task.
Privacy settings are very important in protecting your identity. Be sure to look at the privacy or security settings for all of your websites and media pages. On Facebook, you can change it so people who are your friends can see your postings. There is no reason to have all of your information open for everyone.
Be aware of what you are saying on Xbox live chats. Anyone of any age can be on there. I've heard some mean, and I mean mean, things said on there. The game doesn't change because you've insulted them, so why do it?

- What can I do?!?
You could animate a story (or song) and post it!
You could write a song and record it!
This one is long but it shows you that you could use Sock Puppets (an app on the iPads) to spread the word.
- Or you could use real sock puppets!
Disney is even on board with Cyber Safety!
It doesn't have to have spoken words to be powerful.
You could focus on one aspect of digital citizenship that you feel passionate about, like cyberbullying.
Or Digital Etiquette or Netiquette.
What am I suppose to do?
You'll be working in a small group. As a group, decide your method of spreading the word.
The goal is to make some sort of production to raise awareness or promote digital citizenship. You could highlight what it means to be a digital citizen or focus on an aspect of digital citizenship.
- You could make a skit to record,
- make a podcast (with your voice),
- use Powtoon to make a cartoon,
- use Scratch to make an animation,
- use an iPad with iMovie or Sock Puppets,
- create and record a song,
- you name it! Be creative!
